UNELTA has resumed monthly workshops as was the case in 2016 when we first partnered with the then English Language Fellow, Jessica Fitzpatrick. During the workshops, teachers share professional development ideas, ranging from teaching methods and techniques, personal socioeconomic growth, cultural competencies, gender-related interventions in school and community settings, collaboration and global teaching, and next generation technology resources to enhance teaching and learning.
The monthly workshops will be held at Makerere University. Kindly contact us for guidance on how to participate.
In the same spirit, UNELTA held a successful, first of its kind Teacher Trainee Conference. Targeting teacher trainees going out for school practice, the conference on April 30 and May 1, 2017, at Makerere University. Key areas for training included Teaching Reading, and Balancing S.T.T (Students’ Talk Time) with T.T.T (Teacher Talk Time), presented by Ms. Jennifer Phillips (the English Language Fellow resident at Mbarara University of Science and Technology), Assessment of and for Learning, presented by Mr. Rogers Quassim Ssemogerere; Finding and Adequately Using Resources, presented by Mr. Rodney Rugyema; and Learner-Centered Teaching, presented by Ms. Aida Birabwa. The attendance was overwhelming, we shall definitely host the same next year. UNELTA notes with gratitude that more than anticipated teacher trainees participated in the training. We commit to a similar conference yearly.
Long Live UNELTA!
